Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Currently located at our Owensboro, KY location Meet Marley! At just 1 year and 8 months old, Marley is a beautiful Labrador Retriever mix, weighing in at around 51 pounds. This sweet girl has already been on quite a journey... when she first arrived at the rescue, she was overwhelmed—shaking and crying, unsure of the world around her. But day by day, Marley has shown us her true colors, and it’s been amazing to witness. She’s timid by nature, but her bravery grows stronger with every passing day. One of her favorite things to do now is run full-speed around the play yard, ‍ tail wagging and heart wide open. She’s learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all—and she's loving it. Marley really blossoms around other dogs, and we believe she would thrive in a home with a canine companion who can continue to show her how good life can be. She's looking for someone patient and kind, someone who sees the gentle, loyal soul behind her shy eyes. Could you be the one to help Marley feel safe, loved, and finally home? All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped and spayed or neutered.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
