Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois (short coat). Adoption Fee: per foster. Kona is a Courtesy Post only and is not a Second Chance Dog Rescue dog. SCDR is not responsible for any ownership, behavior, health, and representations made by the owner with respect to this dog. You must contact her foster mom, Eloina Bernal at (949) 520-2537 (phone/text) to learn more about Kona or to meet her . Kona is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois, with a wonderful mix of energy and affection. She is full of life and incredibly smart, and a total cuddle bug once she settles in and gets comfortable. Kona loves to stay active and would thrive with someone who can match that level of energy as she enjoys walks and playtime. She walks fairly well on a leash but could still use a bit of training to improve consistency, especially when she's excited. Kona would do best in a secure yard with a high fence she isn't able to jump or climb out of. Despite her high energy she has such a gentle loving side and adores companionship. Kona does experience a bit of separation anxiety, which means she gets uneasy when left alone for long periods of time whether that be in the backyard or inside the home. With patience and consistency she's improving but would really do best with someone who is often home or can gradually help build her confidence. Kona would thrive in a home with a confident dog-pal. She's not overly dominant and enjoys the companionship of other dogs. She's fully housebroken and knows to go outside, although infrequent potty accidents when first adjusting to a new environment are not unusual and could happen. Kona's not been around young children, but does well with older kids (preteen and older), and warms up quickly, becoming very friendly and affectionate. She's not aggressive or overly protective, just a bit cautious until she feels comfortable. Kona is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Please contact her foster mom, Eloina Bernal at (949) 520-2537 (phone/text) to learn more about Kona or to meet her .

Breed overview

                            Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
