Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). ****The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at .emmetcountyanimalshelter**** This pretty bundle of love and kisses is momma Athena! Not much older than just a puppy herself she came to us with her 4 pups Hades, Apollo, Freya and Zeus. We think she is a rough coat terrier of some sort but who really knows! What we do know is that the will overwhelm you with affection and this girl loves to play!!!! We also know she is sick of being a mom and is more than ready to just be someone spoiled puppy princess receiving all the things she has missed out on so far in life. Athena was rescued by a kind lady on the Pine Ridge reservation. She had wandered up on her property and while Athena was cautious about approaching the lady she must have felt safe because she had her puppies almost immediately in a make shift dog house the lady put up so that Athena would have a safe spot to make a nest and wait until rescue could make the trip out to her acreage to take them all in. Now a days, Athena knows no strangers and she would prefer to cuddle on the couch with you. We have not had her with any other dogs since she has been with her puppies but we think she would do just fine with an appropriate introduction. We also have the ability to cat test her as well. We estimate little girl to have been born July of 2024. She weighs in at 33 pounds, is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and dewormed. With an approved application, her adoption fee is $300.00.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
