This gentle, loyal little chihuahua mix is happiest curled up beside his favorite human and greets each day with a calm, loving spirit. He’s the quiet type—rarely barks and takes his time getting to the door—but when he looks up at you with those soulful eyes, you’ll know you’re home. Ferdinand enjoys leisurely walks, cozy naps on the bed (or your lap), and has a soft spot for fresh laundry and tasty snacks. He’s polite and well-mannered, even crossing his paws like a true gentleman when being carried. Recently fresh from a dental tune-up, he eats soft food with gusto and still loves to show off his little hops onto the couch or bed—most of the time making it! Ferdinand is looking for a forever home where he can enjoy his golden years with love, comfort, and companionship. He is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $200. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

Overview:

The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
