Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Jennie is a 6-month-old, 35 pound puppy bursting with personality, smarts, and tail-wagging joy! She’s playful, friendly, and always ready for an adventure - whether it’s a game of fetch, playing tug-of-war with other dogs, or chasing bubbles with the kids. Her sharp mind makes her always eager to train and you’ll be impressed with how quickly she picks up new tricks. Jennie is great with other dogs and absolutely adores children. Because Jennie loves to play with other dogs, she would do best in a home that has another dog for her to play with. She also does well with cats, though sometimes she gets a little too curious and may need gentle reminders to give them space. She’s got the kind of energy that makes every day feel like playtime, but don’t be fooled - she’s also a world class cuddler when it’s time to wind down. Jennie does great in a kennel and is housebroken. We are still working on her leash manners because she still pulls. With her high energy, Jennie will need a yard with an at least five foot high fence. Jennie has not challenged the fence in her foster home but she will need plenty of space to run and play safely. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue . Jennie is being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC.

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
