Archie | 7–10-year-old Australian Cattle Dog Mix | The Sweetest “Woo Woo” Gentleman Meet Archie — a gentle, happy soul who’s part Australian Cattle Dog, part teddy bear. At around 75 pounds, this handsome black pup is full of charm, love, and that irresistible “woo woo” he makes when it’s mealtime or when his people come home. Archie is the perfect blend of relaxed and playful — always up for a walk or a cuddle, and content to nap by your side once the day winds down. Archie is wonderfully house-trained (no accidents here!) and politely whines to let you know when he needs to go out. He’s crate-trained, though he doesn’t need to be crated when left alone — he’s a respectful houseguest who just needs you to keep snacks out of reach, as he’s been known to help himself to counter goodies! Walks are one of Archie’s favorite things. He struts with a little pep in his step, stays close on leash, and is easily redirected with treats if a bunny catches his eye. He’s friendly with both people and dogs, and though he had a rough start (including an unfortunate run-in with a neighbor’s dog early on), he’s handled everything with incredible grace. He loves other dogs and would enjoy having a playmate, but he’d also be perfectly happy as your one-and-only best friend. Archie adores kids, is friendly with everyone he meets, and settles easily into new routines. He enjoys car rides, belly rubs, stuffie toys, and his Nylabone chews. True to his Cattle Dog mix, he’s smart and very food-motivated — which makes training both easy and fun. He’s currently working on trimming down a few pounds, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. After all he’s been through, Archie is ready to find a loving home where he can keep enjoying the simple things: walks, naps, affection, and the joy of being part of a family. He’s the kind of dog who makes a house feel like home — loyal, loving, and always ready with a tail wag and that signature “woo woo” of happiness. See more photos and videos of handsome Archie here! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
