Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Meet Doc Hudson! This lovable senior has the perfect mix of sweetness and spirit. He’s gentle, affectionate, and still enjoys a good walk — he’s got some pep in his step and likes to explore the world at his own pace (with a little squirrel chasing here and there). Doc adores people and never says no to attention. He’ll nudge your hand for more pets and greet you with happy wiggles and tail wags whenever you come home. He’s friendly with everyone he meets and happiest when he’s close to his humans. As a senior pup, Doc would do best in a home with minimal stairs and easy access for potty breaks, but he still has plenty of energy for strolls and adventures. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion who’s equal parts calm and full of heart, Doc Hudson might be the one for you. All animals adopted from PAWS are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. Adoption fees are as follows, including taxes: Adult cats (6 months+) are $81. (1) Kitten (<6 months) is $135. (2) Kittens (<6 months) are $216. Puppies (<12 months) are $324. Adult Dogs (< 25lbs) are $297. Adult Dogs (25lbs+) are $162. Small animals are $27. The PAWS Adoption Center in Old City at 2nd and Arch Streets is open to walk-ins or by appointment Monday-Friday from 12 pm to 6 pm, Saturday 11 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Cats and small animals are available at this location. PAWS also has cats available for adoption at the Petsmart at Broad St and Washington Ave by appointment. PAWS has a large network of foster homes where dogs, cats, and small animals are available for adoption. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
