Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Meet Maddy! This adorable 8-month-old Terrier mix is 21 pounds of pure joy and curiosity. Spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all her vaccinations, Maddy is ready to start her next adventure — finding her forever family! After spending several months in a shelter, she’s now discovering all the comforts of home life. She’s crate trained and working on her house training, learning quickly with positive reinforcement (and treats — she’s very food motivated!). Maddy is full of playful energy and would absolutely love a fenced-in backyard where she can run, explore, and chase falling leaves. She’s also learning to enjoy downtime — recently discovering how cozy it is to curl up next to her people and how fascinating her reflection in the mirror can be! With her happy spirit, love of toys, and eagerness to please, Maddy will make a wonderful companion for an active family ready to give her the love and structure she deserves. The adoption fee of $450 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
