Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $250.00. NEW RESCUE! Meet Carl! Carl is a 7.5-year-old, 19lb. terrier mix with the heart of a true gentleman. (He's also a curly cutie in disguise - see his last photo!) This sweet boy has a calm, gentle spirit and loves nothing more than being near his people. He may be a little shy at first, but with a little patience and a few tasty treats (his favorite!), he quickly warms up and shows his affectionate side. Carl enjoys his daily walks and does very well on leash—he’s the perfect walking buddy for someone who enjoys a relaxed pace. He’s also crate trained and does well with other dogs. We’re not sure yet how he feels about cats, but his friendly and easygoing nature suggests he’d adjust well with proper introductions. Carl is still working on his house training and is doing well with consistent potty breaks. He came to us in desperate need of grooming and has a short haircut now but we have added a reference photo of him with longer hair. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who just wants to be close and loved, Carl might be your perfect match. Apply to meet him at bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
