Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Delmar, NY Say hello to Goose’s puppies! There are three of them in the flock - Jay Jay (m, red collar, darker ears), Kiwi (m, green collar, thin line down nose), and Puffin (f, purple collar, mask on ears/eyes). These puppies made their way to upstate New York from West Virginia with their mom Goose and have been taking in all the fall foliage while they grow and explore the world. They have all been exposed to a variety of experiences and items indoors (like vacuums) and outdoors (like deer), are used to being handled by adults, and have been in a house with a small child. They appear to be a healthy mix of cattle dog (momma Goose) and something else (???). And, while Goose is pretty small (22 lbs), the pups are quickly outgrowing her and will likely be at least medium sized when grown. Kiwi is a suuuper smart pup! He catches on to new things fast and is food motivated. He will need humans that can continue to provide him with lots of mental stimulation as well as exercise. While Kiwi isn't quite the constant life of the party his brother Jay is, he's still pretty active and will need people that are committed to giving him outlets for his energy. That said, he appears eager to be with and please his people. Kiwi is happy to hang with his siblings, but also seeks out human attention. He has been exposed to young children, and is sweet with them, but would do better in a home with older children or dog savvy children. By the time of adoption they will have been dewormed twice, received their first two rounds of vaccinations, and been microchipped. They will go out on a spay/neuter contract. They were born on August 7, 2025 and will be 13 weeks old and available to go to their new homes beginning November 8th. They are started on potty training with pee pads and outside (but obviously have a ways to go with being housetrained) and have a good start with some basic commands, including sitting before meals, comfort with being handled, being with children and other dogs. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
