Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. INTRODUCING A WONDERFUL NEW MALINOIS Please welcome Ms. Felicity to MAD Rescue. She is a 12-month-old beauty! She has elegant, long legs and runs just as elegantly. Her personality also matches her beauty, and we can’t say enough great things about her! Felicity does have high food and toy drive; although, she does prefer toys to food. Her favorite toys seem to be a ball, ring, and tug. She spends most of her day figuring out which toy she would rather play with! She is both crate and potty trained. She has a high pack and prey drive, so she should not live with cats, small children under the age of 8, and no small dogs. She has been tested. She also would not be a good service dog prospect. Felicity has a low defense fight and flight drive BUT will stand her ground when other dogs correct her. She would do better in a home that has a less dominant dog personality. She takes corrections from humans brilliantly because she wants to please her owner. She is currently developing a good off switch. Her nose has been tested, and she may make a great working dog with the right professional training. So far, she has learned to heal when walking on a leash and we are working on sit. She understands the following commands: outside, heal, no, no bite, drop, come, off, right, left. She also knows how to use a doggy door. Overall, Felicity would make a great working or sports prospect, OR a great hiking/running companion. She will need an experienced handler who can exercise both her mind and body daily. Taking her on long walks will not suffice for this girl. She has been a pleasure to foster! POSITIVES Potty trained Crate trained Great with human corrections Loves her humans Curious Great sniffer Off switch Heals when walking on leash NEEDS TO WORK ON Accepting corrections from other dogs Basic obedience If you are interested in making Felicity a permanent family member in your home and you already filled out an adoption/foster application with us, please click on the comment and let us know that you are interested in Felicity and we can add her to your application. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
