Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Benji – the Handsome Hound Mix! Benji is an 11-month-old, 48 lb mixed breed dog, with a big heart and an even bigger personality! He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and ready to find his forever family. This sweet boy is energetic, playful, and incredibly smart—the kind of pup who’s always happy just to be part of the fun. Benji loves attention and forms strong bonds with his humans. Because of that, he’ll need a meet-and-greet with any potential dog siblings, or he would absolutely shine as your one and only companion. Benji can be a little shy or nervous around new people, but once he warms up, his affectionate side really comes through. He walks nicely on a leash most of the time but can be strong when he catches an interesting scent—that nose just can’t resist! A fenced yard would be ideal to help him burn off his puppy energy. Once he’s inside, Benji loves to snuggle beside his person, chew on his favorite bones, or nap peacefully. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and fun companion, Benji might just be your perfect match! Benji will be available for adoption on or after October 26, 2025, through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA 15144, KL#16182.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
