Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This little shy thing is Ember. She was surrendered to us by a family that couldn't care for her and her 3 siblings. She is very friendly but will be a little shy at first. She has been outdoors her entire life in a small pen, so everything is new to her. She is adapting very well to being inside the shelter and would love being in a warm, comfy home. She will need some work on house training but most outside dogs learn quick, plus we offer free obedience training via Dog Academy. We were told her mother was a shepherd mix but not sure about Dad. She is currently 7 months old and only weighs 20lbs, so she will not be a very big dog, probably 30 pounds full grown. Ember is good with kids and other dogs and will make a wonderful pet for the lucky family that snags her up first! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
