Description
Dog Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Pinto is a 3-year-old rat terrier mix with a calm, gentle demeanor and just the right amount of playful energy. He’s a chill little guy who loves to relax but can’t help getting excited when you are — he feeds off the happy energy around him! Pinto gets along wonderfully with adults, kids, and other dogs, making him a great fit for many types of homes. He’s especially motivated by his favorite treat — cheese! Just the sound of it coming out makes him light up, and he can even jump surprisingly high when he’s extra excited. While Pinto can be a little nervous or skittish when meeting new people, he warms up beautifully once he feels safe and loved. With a bit of patience and a lot of affection (and maybe a few cheese cubes), this sweet boy will be your loyal, loving companion. Pinto is from Texas. This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian. Breed overview
Overview:
The Rat-Cha, a charming crossbreed between the Chihuahua and Rat Terrier, offers a spirited companion with a unique blend of its parent breeds' best traits. Originating from the desire to combine the Chihuahua's affectionate nature with the Rat Terrier's intelligence and robustness, this hybrid is gaining popularity. Physically, Rat-Chas are typically small to medium-sized, weighing between 6 and 15 pounds, with a short, easy-to-care-for coat that can vary widely in color. They often possess expressive eyes and a sturdy build, reflecting their terrier lineage. Temperamentally, they are known for being alert, playful, and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their families. While they can be vocal, early socialization and training can mitigate this. Their adaptable size makes them well-suited for both apartment living and homes with yards, and they can be wonderful additions to active families, though supervision is wise with very young children due to their smaller stature. Health-wise, like many small breeds, they can be prone to dental issues and patellar luxation, so regular vet check-ups are important.
