Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Sweet Duncan is a one-year old lively Chihuahua/mix boy full of personality and spunk! He loves to be active and would thrive in a home that can keep up with his playful spirit. He's always ready for play time or any fun adventure. Duncan is great with other dogs and is still working on his housebreaking training. He new family will need to help him with that and some basic training skills to help him become the best family member we know he can be. With consistency, structure and love, Duncan will make wonderfully devoted companion. If you're looking for a fun, upbeat dog to share your life's adventures, come meet Duncan. He might be your perfect match. Duncan is a courtesy post for the Brooke County Animal Shelter in Beechbottom, WV, about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
