Description
Dog Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat). Meet Koa – Your Loyal Shadow and Gentle Soul At about three years old and weighing in around 47–50 pounds, Koa is a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer with a calm, loving nature and a heart full of devotion. She’s the kind of dog who quietly wins you over — gentle, affectionate, and happiest when she’s by your side. Koa is what we like to call a Velcro dog. She forms a close bond with her person and loves nothing more than to be near you, whether you’re working from home, relaxing on the couch, or heading out for a walk. She’s polite on the leash, walking right beside or slightly behind you, never pulling. She’s also house trained, uses a doggie door with ease, and will sleep soundly all night in her own bed. Koa is still settling into home life, but she’s already shown herself to be a well-mannered companion. She doesn’t bark, dig, chew, or jump fences. She’s allowed on the furniture and is perfectly content to nap quietly or lounge at your feet. While she’ll occasionally check the counters (she’s a curious GSP, after all!), her foster can’t think of a single bad thing to say about her. She’s good with other dogs — she’s been to the dog park and gotten along beautifully with everyone, big and small. Koa also enjoys the company of children, even though it seems she hasn’t spent a lot of time around them before. She’s sweet and respectful in her interactions, taking everything in stride. Her gentle, timid nature suggests she may have had some rough experiences in the past; she’s not a fan of being reached for over the top of her head, which could be a reminder of that. With patience and love, she’ll continue to build confidence and trust. When it comes to activity, Koa isn’t demanding. She doesn’t seem to need much exercise beyond a good daily walk and the comfort of being near her human. She’s not toy-motivated yet, and she’s content to simply be part of whatever you’re doing. She’s also great in the car — she loves going along for the ride! Koa would do well in a variety of homes. She’d fit right in with another friendly dog or two, a family with kids, or even as the only dog in a quieter household where she gets plenty of companionship and affection. What she really wants most is someone who’ll include her in daily life — she’s not the type to enjoy being left behind. This sweet, gentle girl has settled beautifully into her foster home, and her calm presence makes her a joy to be around. She’s ready to find her forever person — someone who’ll appreciate her soft spirit, her loyalty, and her steady love. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will walk by your side, curl up near your feet, and make every day a little brighter, Koa may be the perfect match. Ready to meet your new best friend? Overview:
The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is a versatile and elegant sporting breed, originating in 19th-century Germany where it was developed for hunting various game. Physically, GSPs are known for their athletic build, sleek coat (typically liver or liver and white), and intelligent, expressive eyes. They possess a strong, muscular physique that enables them to excel in diverse activities. Temperamentally, GSPs are energetic, intelligent, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. Their loyal and affectionate nature means they thrive on human interaction, but their high energy levels necessitate ample daily exercise to prevent boredom or destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless their exercise requirements are exceptionally well-met. Regarding health, GSPs are a relatively robust breed, though they can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and certain cancers. Responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups are crucial for maintaining their well-being.
