Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Mary Pembroke, MA 'Tis time! Born around 9/10/25, Sanderson's eight little imps came into foster care as mere sprigs at approximately three weeks old. They have all been learning, growing, and running amok (amok, amok, amok!) while they wait for their adoptive families to find them! Mary has been the most sensitive of the litter and can struggle a bit in new environments without her siblings for support. She's slowest to take on a new challenge, but does find success with encouragement from people or other dogs. Once she gets a few reps in, the previously stressful thing becomes fun and she loves showing off that she can do it! Mary is food motivated, likes to play, and has done well meeting new adults and dogs. She's an active little pup, and will enjoy a home that will continue training her and teaching her fun games! Their momma, Sanderson, has been a friendly, sensitive girl and is settling in nicely here in foster. She's done a great job caring for her pups! Embark results on one puppy revealed they are primarily ACD with low percentages of several other breeds (apbt, husky, boxer, and aussie shepherd). This breed makeup appears accurate for all pups in the litter, so we feel it is unlikely there were multiple sires (but that's always a possibility). Mom is approximately 35lbs, and we estimate most pups will fall in a similar range. We are establishing some foundational skills here, including crate exposure and a verbal marker system for training, but as puppies they will need training for all the basics to grow great and powerful. Be warned: they will try to light Black Flame Candles without proper guidance. Pups are getting positive exposure to dogs, and should be fine with cats (particularly black cats) if integrated properly. Mary will do best in a kid-free home with a stable adult dog to model behavior from, and with an experienced adopter looking for a pup with whom to do continued socialization and extra confidence building. She has had a lot of positive exposure to new things here, and has a ton of potential in the right home! Mary is microchipped, up to date on deworming, and has age-appropriate vaccinations. She and her littermates are being adopted out on spay/neuter contracts to allow their puppy bodies and minds more time to develop. They must meet their potential families in person to help ensure a great match - please keep your location in mind when applying. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
