Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Look at those ears! This beauty is Chameleon. She is a mixed breed pup who is currently 6 months old. Right now, she weighs 43 pounds. She is expected to be a large dog (50-100 pounds) when fully grown. Chameleon had a rough start to life and is looking for a stable home where she can truly become the best version of herself. Chameleon has a medium energy level. She enjoys playing with other dogs and has been described as calm and sweet by her rescuers. Chameleon gets along well with other dogs and children. She would be a wonderful addition to a family that already has either (or both!). She has not met cats yet. Chameleon is working on house, crate and leash training. She is a smart girl who wants to please her people, so she is sure to pick these skills up quickly with the patience and consistency of her new family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
