Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). You can apply for Kira at ladyluckanimalrescue.wufoo/forms/canine-adoption-agreement-and-application/ ❤️ Kira is a 4 Year Old Purebred German Shepherd. We rescued her in July 2025’ from Animal Care and Control after she was owner surrendered. Kira was emaciated, heart worm positive, not eating and just a shell of a dog, whom we weren’t sure would survive. She is a tough cookie and has not only survived, she is flourishing! Kira already had her heart worm injections and now only requires regular monthly heart worm prevention for treatment. Kira is a typical Female German Shepherd; she loves and protects her humans. She is great with other dogs in the home, upon proper introduction. Kira is playful, affectionate and an easy keeper. She is crate trained, fully potty trained and walks well on a leash. She will do best in a home with no small children. You must be familiar with the breed to adopt. Kira is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Due to her heart worm diagnosis, we are not able to spay her until April. A spay contract will be required to adopt her. The rescue will pay for the spay surgery provided the surgery is done at our partnering veterinarian. If you are interested in adopting our Beloved Kira, please fill out our adoption application. (There is an adoption fee)

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
