Hewie - Neutered Male - Pocket Bully /staffie mix - B&W - 3 Years old - 45 Pounds - Fine with dogs. NO CATS. He's got a giant head on a low-rider, bow legged body -- gives kisses, listens well, stays in his kennel until he's told to come out, expert-level snuggler. This guy came in with another dog as a stray. No one called an no posts were found. He quickly became a favorite with his playfull and happy attitude. This guy loves everyone - besides cats. He is also very smart!! He knows sit, paw, other paw, and easy. He pulls on his leash but he listens to correction well. He's so low to the ground - under 16" at his shoulder. He loves to snuggle...if you start to pet him, he rolls over for belly rubs. He'd be great on the couch helping you watch football! He's not a barker...except when it's time for food. Then he'll cheer you on as you get his bowl ready. You can also put your hand in his food bowl and take his food bowl and toys away w/out issue. Hewie tested positive for heartworm and is going through the treatments. He's doing great.. We take walks through the neighborhood every day and he hangs out in the kennel. The vet gave me trazadone to keep him calm and I've not used any of it. He's very chill. He does get really excited when I hose out the outside portion of his kennel. He LOVES to jump at the hose water stream. His treatment will be to keep him calm while his body sheds the heartworms. It's not contagious, he just needs to not be allowed to run around too much until he's through with his treatments -- prob 2 more months. Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
