Alamo came to the shelter from an abandoned home with several other dogs. She is scared and unsure at first when meeting new dogs. But she’s already showing what a sweetheart she is, and with a little patience and kindness, she’ll lean in for more trust and love. Alamo is heartworm positive but can be treated—and she deserves the chance to feel safe and happy again. She just needs a loving home where she can blossom into the loyal companion she’s meant to be.

In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds.
