Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Yuka, a true rock star! This stunning female Husky is a volunteer favorite—and it’s easy to see why. Super sweet and full of personality, Yuka loves hanging out in the play yard with her canine pals and is the opposite of a typical aloof Husky. At just 39 pounds, she’s the perfect size to take along on all your adventures. Her gorgeous smile and playful energy are sure to turn heads wherever you go. Yuka is fun, affectionate, and ready to find a loving home where she can share her sparkle with someone special. Yuka has participated in shelter playgroups and would likely enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. She's one of our playgroup helper dogs, which means she helps us assess new dogs and makes the scared ones feel safe and welcome. She's also sharing her shelter suite with a friend she met at the shelter. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out her playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet & greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We’re located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
