Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). #A5729848 Claire is a petite and demure female Siberian Husky with bright blue eyes and a pretty black and white coat. In the shelter she is shy and timid, but we think she will show typical husky enthusiasm for exploring the neighborhood once she feels safe in a home. With a little time to relax and build a relationship, Claire will enjoy having a special person to go for walks and spend time with. -Easy on leash, she will be a fantastic walking buddy -About 2 years and 30 pounds, she is a little too thin and will look and feel her best with a few more pounds on her frame -Came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray on September 30 -Was tolerant of other dogs in her assessment, but she didn’t show much interest in playing with them. Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy.
