Description

Dog Breed: Dachshund. Adoption Fee: 175. One beautiful long haired DOXIE, spayed female. Sweet but shy at first. Recently brought into TDR on 10/24/25. Shows some anxiety when first introduced to new home, which is expected when significant emotional events happen. Just like us humans, right? Her long hair gives her that typical look, that makes this breed so special. I mean, look at those pictures, she could be a model. She does well in a crate. Loves a lap to snuggle on. At her age of 6 years, she is mature enough to settle into your home. After an initial adaption period, she will be a loyal companion. She has finished her initial veterinarian exam and got a great report. She is scheduled for a dental appointment, fully funded by TDR, of course. She is currently enjoying eating her dry dog food with no problems. Have other dogs? No problem for Maggie, she gets along with others, thanks to her adult personality. Don't just fall in love with her pictures. Visit Maggie and see for yourself. If her cute locks don't get you, her personality will win you over.

Overview:

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
