Weighing around 100 pounds, she’s a gentle powerhouse…affectionate, curious, and deeply loyal to her humans. Wapsi is energetic, food-motivated, and loving, but she also enjoys her independence and doesn’t rely on other animals for companionship. She’s happiest when she’s part of the family routine…following her people from room to room, napping in a cozy bed (or preferably your bed), and joining in for walks that let her famous nose go to work. She’s potty-trained, crate-trained, and house-mannered, though she’s been known to “counter surf” if something tasty is left within reach. She does have the Bloodhound bellowing bark and will alert on wildlife outside the window or a neighbor knocking at your door. Like any true bloodhound, she must stay on leash outdoors — her tracking instincts are strong enough to follow a scent for miles! Wapsi gets along with people of all ages and has successfully lived with other animals, though she can play a little rough if dogs aren’t part of her familiar pack. Wapsi will need to be retrained for proper socialization if going to the dog park as she does not understand her size and weight when engaging with other dogs. We now use the side fenced in area of dog parks for her to run without worry. With patient structure, affection, and the occasional treat, she’ll quickly become someone’s loyal shadow. Wapsi’s ideal home is one that appreciates the quirks of the bloodhound breed — a place where her floppy ears, bellowing bark, and heart-melting expressions will be cherished as much as her devotion. Summary: 5 years old, 100 lbs, liver & tan Crate & potty trained Food motivated and energetic; possessive of toys Great with humans of all ages Needs leash walks and regular ear/skin care; must stay leashed outdoors Loving, expressive, and full of character If you’re looking for a faithful, affectionate companion with a big personality and even bigger heart, Wapsi is ready to make your home hers. Overview:
The Bloodhound is an ancient and noble breed, primarily known for its exceptional sense of smell, believed to be the keenest of any dog. Originating in medieval France and developed by monks, they were initially used for tracking deer and other game. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs with characteristic loose skin, deep wrinkles, and long, drooping ears that help funnel scents. Their temperament is generally gentle, patient, and good-natured, making them surprisingly suitable for families with children, though their size and tracking instincts require supervision. While their calm demeanor might suggest apartment living is possible, their need for significant outdoor exercise and a secure yard to prevent them from following a scent trail makes them better suited to homes with space. Health-wise, they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as bloat, making careful breeding and proper diet crucial. Their distinctive appearance and unparalleled tracking ability make them a truly unique and beloved companion.
