Description
Dog Breed: Border Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). ***DFW area only-No Exceptions*** Available for pre-adoption with a go home date of 11/7/25. Joel is a 6 weeks (as of10/29/25) old Terrier mix puppy. He was found stray and taken to the shelter at just 4.5 weeks of age. It’s dangerous for such young puppies to be in the shelter, so his foster mom brought him into the Legacy Humane fold! Joel loves to be played with, enjoys belly rubs, and is very social. Joel prefers to be near his human at all times and preferably on their lap. He's not a fan of being left alone and would love a human who is home a lot. Puppies at this age will require patience and training to become the best pup they can be. Joel is working on potty training and, given a potty schedule, he does very well for his young age. Terriers are energetic dogs and need a family with enough time to engage in play and exercise. Joel does well with kids old enough to understand puppy behavior (~8ys and up) and who are mature enough to understand the safety issues surrounding a puppy this tiny. He does well with other dogs and so far, cats. He responds well to corrections from dogs and cats and curtails his behavior accordingly. He can be vocal when left alone so is probably not apartment friendly. Current weight 2 lbs Projected weight 15- 20 lbs Working on crate training This puppy has not had two sets of shots at this time. Adopters must have a private place for potty training to reduce the chances for life threatening illnesses until the second set of shots are given. No dog parks or shared potty spaces with unknown dogs. We are requesting a donation of $325 for the adoption which includes his neuter, three rounds of puppy vaccines, a rabies vaccine, microchip with registration, dewormer and a single dose of heartworm preventative. If you're interested in meeting or adopting him, please complete an application on our website and someone will reach out to you within 48 hours. legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ Adopter will take puppy to an LHS approved vet to be neutered in January of 2026 per the spay/neuter agreement and in accordance to Chapter 828, Texas Health and Safety Code. *Due to the high volume of applications and inquires for puppies as well as vetting needs, we will not be able to respond to or consider interest from those outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted.
