Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Hi, I’m Chessie! I’m a 6-week-old puppy (as of October 30th) with the softest caramel coat and curious blue eyes. I was found hiding in the bushes after being left behind, but even that rough start couldn’t dim my sweet spirit. I may be small — just about 6 pounds...and growing— but my heart is big and brave. I love snuggling into blankets and feeling safe close to people. Every day I’m discovering new things: soft toys, kind voices, and gentle hands that make me feel loved. I’m house-broken and crate-trained, super smart, and learning new things every day! I’m gaining both weight and confidence, and I absolutely love every human I meet. I just arrived from Puerto Rico and I’m ready to start my forever story — to grow up surrounded by warmth, care, and love. With my gentle eyes and trusting heart, I’ll be your loyal little shadow in no time.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
