Description

Dog Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Remy is a dog that will thrive living with someone that has experience in understanding dog body language and cues. She's a lovable little rottie mix that can be quite vocal during play, but has some resource guarding around food and high-value treats like bones. The safest way to manage resource guarding is to offer an item of equal or higher value (trading up) to help teach confidence around prized possessions. OTHER PETS: Remy has been relaxed around other dogs, and has even offered some play bows! She's been playful and eager to greet the other dogs she's seen, but as always would need to meet any dog she may be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Remy would do best with someone that has experience with large/stronger dogs, as well as current knowledge on dog body language & communication, and positive reinforcement to help Remy learn important skills and build confidence. [Experienced] KIDS: Because of Remy's discomfort with some types of handling and her history of resource guarding, she would do best in a home with no children. [Adults Only] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Remy can be excitable, especially during play, but settles well once she realizes play time is over. She's a dog that will thrive with access to various kinds of both physical and mental enrichment, including puzzle games, casual walks around the neighborhood, or more adventurous activities like hiking--with the support of positive reinforcement training. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete] VETERINARY CARE: Remy has been found to be lyme positive. Though this doesn't seem to affect her currently, lyme is a life-long diagnosis and it's likely that she may have flare-ups every so often, so having an established relationship with a vet would be ideal. Otherwise, Remy is in good health and seems to be ready to take on the world! [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Remy is still at the beginning of her positive reinforcement training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement will help Remy not only learn her basic cues & skills, but also help her to bond with her new owner. [Moderate] GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]

Rottweiler

A.K.A.: Rottweil butcher's dog, Rottweil dog, Rottie, Rotty, Rott, Rot, Rotts, Rotties, Butchers dog, German Rottweiler
Overview:

The Rottweiler is a powerful and intelligent breed, originating in Germany where they were primarily used to drive cattle and guard property. Physically, they are robust dogs, instantly recognizable by their medium-large size, strong build, and striking black coat with distinct tan markings, particularly on the muzzle, chest, and legs. Their temperament, when properly socialized and trained, is one of unwavering loyalty and confidence; they are known for being calm and courageous, making them excellent guardians. While generally good with children within their own family, their protective instincts mean they require supervision with strangers. Due to their size and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, Rottweilers are generally not ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes with secure yards. Health-wise, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions, necessitating responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups.
