Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Who is this handsome guy? Meet Kors! Kors is a total dreamboat and is the type of dog who makes friends with everyone he meets. He loves to be out and about socializing and has been a rockstar at multiple adoption events. He has a goofy, fun personality and is ready to spend the rest of his life bringing smiles to everyone's faces. We estimate that he is around 2-4 years old. Kors is fully grown and weighs about 27lbs. However, he is a tad underweight and would benefit from gaining a few pounds. Kors was found as a stray and brought to an overcrowded Central California animal shelter. After about a month with no adoption interest, he was placed on the euthanasia list for no fault of his own. We are so happy that we were able to save his life, and he has been thriving in his foster home. Kors is a very affectionate, energetic, happy guy with a constantly wagging tail, and a very cute one-ear-up-one-ear-down look. He loves to get lots of attention and petting, and also loves toys, especially beef hooves for chewing. He enjoys walks and is well-behaved on a leash. He is a well-mannered guy, but doesn't seem to have been taught anything like sit or down, so he will need some work on his basic training. He’s very food-motivated, so would likely learn new commands pretty quickly. Kors gets along with the other dogs at his foster home and could be a great addition to a family with other dogs, but also wouldn't mind being your one and only. We haven't seen Kors around cats, but he may do well living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Kors has done great meeting kids at adoption events and could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 5 years and older. We don’t know if Kors is actually housetrained or not, but he likes to lift his leg on everything in the backyard. He was just recently neutered, so this is normal, especially since his foster mom’s backyard is filled with the souvenir smells left behind by previous foster dogs. :-) That should subside as the hormones work their way out of his system. In his new home, it would be advisable to keep an eye on him when he’s inside, and keep him gated in one room with you while you’re watching TV or on the computer until he gets used to the new environment. At first, he didn’t like it, but now he’s comfortable being in a crate overnight and is starting to love it since that’s where he’s getting fed - his favorite thing! Kors doesn’t seem to know the command “sit, but he does know “lie down.” Kors is looking for a home where he can get plenty of attention and exercise. Does he sound like the right match for your family? If so, he would love to meet you! Kors's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
