Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (medium coat). Some pets are in the Shelter and others in Foster homes. Please read the bio & email the address listed in the bio. Additionally for CATS you may email JSheltoneulesstx.gov and for DOGS, email trinitygapclubgmail Benson! Say hello to Benson, a 9-month-old, 44-pound hound mix with the sweetest face and an even sweeter personality! This handsome boy was sadly surrendered when his family could no longer care for him, but he’s ready to find his forever home. Benson is believed to be potty and kennel trained, and he’s been working hard with a trainer on his leash manners — he’s making great progress! He gets along well with most dogs and absolutely loves being petted and getting attention from his people. Because he’s still young and full of energy, Benson would do best in a home with older children who can help him continue learning and growing. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion with an irresistible face, Benson may be your perfect match! For more information or to meet Benson, please email Maria Bradford at riply82hotmail

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
