Dog Breed: Dachshund (long coat). Adoption Fee: $250 plus tax. We are an all-volunteer/foster home-based rescue. Fill out the form by clicking on the picture of the computer screen with our logo on it. Hi! I'm Buster! I just arrived in Dakota Dachshund Rescue so my foster mom is just getting to know me. I am house trained however I do need to learn a new routineat each new home I go to. I do well sleeping in a kennel. I get along with the other dog in my foster home, except when there are dog bones involved. I get along with people, I am very friendly with all people. I do need a fenced yard as I am a hunter and have no recall at this point. I does OK with a leash but I need more training as walking on a harness and leash are new to me, but I do love to make people happy. Can you be my furever home? I am 9 years old, I weigh 11 pounds, my adoption fee is $250 plus sales tax $11.25= $261.25 My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as HW test, presurgical bloodwork, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter, dental and microchipping.

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
