Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Jade is a beautiful German Shepherd with a gentle soul and a heart full of love to give. This lovely girl can be a little shy at firstânew people and unfamiliar situations make her a bit nervousâbut with patience and kindness, Jade blossoms into the most loyal, affectionate companion you could ask for. Once she trusts you, Jadeâs playful side shines through. She loves being outdoors, especially when she gets to run alongside her favorite humans and feel the wind in her fur. Treats are one of her favorite things (theyâre also a great way to win her over!), and sheâll happily show off her best âsitâ for a tasty snack. Because Jade can be startled by loud noises, sheâll do best in a calm, predictable home with people who can offer reassurance and gentle guidance. She has not lived around other animals before, so a meet and greet with any current dogs in the home would be required prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting Jade, please visit the shelter during our open hours; Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri 10a-12:30p & 2p-4p, Thurs 10a-12:30p & 2p-6:30p, and Saturday 9a-1p. Adoption application can be filled out and approved during your meet-and-greet. If you have another dog in the home, plan to bring them for a meet before you complete the adoption!

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
