Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: McAlester, OK DOB: 02/06/2024 Meet Sylvester, a big, goofy blue Great Dane who has the perfect mix of sweetness and silliness. He’s the kind of dog who makes you laugh one moment and melts your heart the next. With a moderate energy level, he’s happy to join you for walks, fetch sessions, or kid-approved adventures, but he also knows how to settle down and relax when it’s time to snuggle or nap. Sylvester is a true “velcro Dane” who loves to be right by your side. He’s great with kids—though sometimes his size and enthusiasm can make him a little bit of a wrecking ball—and he’s done well meeting other dogs and even living alongside a cat. He’s curious about cats and sometimes barks at them, but he’s never shown signs of aggression. He’s also people-friendly, warming up quickly once he’s had a chance to sniff and say hello. This big guy has plenty of quirks that make him extra lovable. He adores snuggling, chewing ropes and stuffies, and even sliding down the playset with the kids! He’s housetrained, crate-trained, and rides nicely in the car. On walks, he’s usually good on leash, though he’ll sometimes pull if he’s excited to meet another dog. He’s also a pretty good watchdog—alert without being aggressive. Like any curious Dane, Sylvester will happily investigate the trash if given the chance, so a tidy home (or one with a covered trash can) will keep him out of mischief. His ideal home would be one where he gets to be part of the action, especially with kids to play with or a family who loves including him in their daily life. A big house with room to stretch out and people who don’t mind a giant shadow following them around would make him happiest. Sylvester is a big sweetheart who’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and lots of love to his forever family. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
