Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Jax may look like he wouldn't be afraid of anything but this sweet boy has been petrified of all the strange smells and noises of the shelter. It took a lot of patience on the part of our Shelter Supervisor to build that first tenuous bond of trust to get out for a leash walk, and since then Jax has slowly been exploring the shelter and getting more comfortable with all the new things he is experiencing. OTHER PETS: Jax is interested in other dogs and pulls to go greet them; he is very sniffy and a little playful but also a little pushy and seemed hesitant in some of his interactions. Jax should meet any dog in the household prior to adoption to ensure a good fit. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [Some Experience] Experience with positive reinforcement to bring out his best, and taking things slowly, would be ideal. KIDS: Jax is friendly with humans once he gets to know them and feel safe with them; kids that are able to let Jax come to them and not make loud noises that may startle him when he does approach would be a great fit. Jax is comfortable with handling and may attempt to climb into the laps of seated humans. [8+ DOG SAVVY (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: As mentioned, Jax has been shut down at the shelter - once he is settled into a home and comfortable with his humans he may exhibit a higher energy level than he is at the shelter. Currently Jax enjoys goofing off in our outside runs where he is more comfortable than his indoor kennel; with this energy level he would do well with daily walks. Regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his need.
