Description
Dog Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Dachshund / Mixed. A SWEET & LOVING FRIEND: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 16 lbs. Hi there, I’m Leilani! I came to Mostly Mutts from a home with too many dogs, and I’m so grateful for the help I’ve received. I’ve been adjusting well and really enjoy spending time with the wonderful volunteers who cared for me at the shelter. Now I’m in a great foster home, having fun and getting ready to find my forever family to love — how exciting! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I get along fine with the other dog in my foster home that’s around my size. I bark at other dogs when I see them, but with a proper introduction, I’ve done well. I met larger dogs at Mostly Mutts, but I wasn’t fond of them or of hyper type dogs. So, if you have a dog that sounds like we’d be a match, let’s meet! I am used to living with other dogs and having a dog friend when my family is away could be helpful to me. / I get along with the cat in my foster home as I mostly ignore her. All cats are different, so I’m not sure how I would be with another cat. / I met the grandkids in a temporary home I was in for about a week, so let’s meet and best no toddlers or very young kids that I may bump over or that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: The volunteers and my foster describe me as a very sweet and happy pup with a friendly spirit and a heart full of love. I’m the kind of dog who just wants to follow you around, share joy, love and affection. I do make some noise when left alone, so I’m not an apartment or condo type of dog as I don’t want to upset the neighbors and I really do want a family member that is home a lot. I’ll be your best buddy, and you will always know you’re loved with me around. / Energy Level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I don’t think I was taught any commands, but that’s something we can work on together! I’m new to walking on a leash, and it’s coming along – but please don’t walk me near busy streets as I’m not ready for that yet. / I sleep quietly in my crate at night, but will bark when I’m alone and in it. / I’m doing well with my potty manners in my foster home on a good schedule, so yay me! • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love attention and being held and snuggling in laps. Belly rubs are the best, too, and I’ll happily roll over to ask for more. I’m sure we’ll discover plenty of other things we enjoy doing together as well! / I do not like being alone, so I’m looking for a family that is home a lot, perhaps a work-from-home or stay-at-home family member to pal around with. Other than that, I can’t really think of any dislikes, but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m a sweet, deserving pup looking for a family to love me and help me enjoy the happy life I’m looking for. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Jackshund is a delightful and energetic hybrid, a charming cross between the tenacious Dachshund and the spirited Jack Russell Terrier. Originating from designer breed popularity, these dogs inherit a unique blend of traits from both parents. Physically, they typically possess a compact build, often with the Dachshund's longer body and shorter legs, coupled with the Jack Russell's alert expression and sometimes wiry coat, though smooth coats are also common. Their temperament is generally described as playful, intelligent, and affectionate, often exhibiting a keen hunting instinct and a courageous streak. While they can be wonderful family pets, their energetic nature means they thrive with consistent training and ample exercise, making them potentially suitable for apartment living if their daily activity needs are met. Prospective owners should be aware of potential health considerations common to their parent breeds, such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) due to their elongated spine, and certain eye conditions or patellar luxation, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
