Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Shadow 2025 – The Loyal Sidekick You’ve Been Waiting For! Shadow 2025 is an approximately 9-month-old, 50 pound German Shepherd with a heart full of love and a playful spirit to match. True to his nickname, Shadow wants to be with you wherever you are—room to room, adventure to adventure, and even… the shower! (Yep, water running and all. We’re pretty sure this boy’s going to love swimming!) Shadow thrives on connection and companionship. He adores cuddling up in bed at night, keeping close by your side, and soaking up every bit of love you’ll give him. He’s exceptionally affectionate and bonds quickly with his people. This big, goofy puppy has a medium energy level and loves staying active but also knows how to settle. His favorite activities include: Playtime with other dogs (chasing, wrestling, romping—you name it!), chewing on his ball and playing fetch, riding calmly in the car, going on walks and exploring new places. Shadow currently shares a home with another dog and enjoys free range of the house 24/7—he’s housebroken and has done wonderfully. Because he’s still a happy, growing puppy, keeping things picked up is recommended (shoes may not be safe LOL). He’s social and gentle and has done well around goats and chickens. He hasn’t shown much prey drive, so we believe he may do well with a dog-savvy cat. He did fine with his cat test but may chase if they run. With his size and playful nature, he’d be best with older, considerate kids—he may accidentally knock over a toddler in moments of excitement. Shadow is smart and eager to please, currently learning commands like: Sit, wait, leave it and come He’s doing great, but will need a family committed to continuing his training. He has improved on leash, though he can still pull some when excited. His ideal home would include: An active family who enjoys daily adventures, a confident canine playmate to run and romp with, a securely fenced yard (6' recommended, though he hasn’t attempted his current 4.5' fence), people who want a devoted companion—because Shadow gives 100% of his heart. If you're looking for a loyal, playful, cuddly best friend who will stick by your side through it all, Shadow is your boy. He may not be your real shadow… but he’ll be the best one you’ll ever have. If you are interested in making Shadow 2025 a member of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue. Shadow is being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
