Description
Dog Breed: Bluetick Coonhound (short coat). Meet Coppe! Age: est 4 months. Breed: mom is a bluetick hound, dad is unknown. Size: approx 20lbs, we believe he will be about 65-70ish lbs when full grown. Training: crate trained, working on leash and house training. He is just a pup so he will need continued guidance. He knows sit and he is very food motivated and eager to please. Good with dogs/cats? Yes to both. Good with men/women/kids? Yes. Personality: a little shy at first, but that doesn't last long! He warms up to be friendly, affectionate, and playful. He will bark or howl when he has an opinion. He would do best with another canine companion to play with or an active family. Reason for rescue: Copper was born to a stray mom. The pups had to be humanely trapped to be caught. They didn't recieve socialization before coming to us, but they have come so far! Copper's personality has really blossomed. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current vaccinations and preventatives. Overview:
The Bluetick Coonhound is a striking American breed, recognized for its distinctive deep blue, mottled coat and powerful build. Originating in the Southern United States from the French Grand Bleu de Gascogne hound, they were selectively bred for their exceptional tracking abilities, particularly for raccoons. Physically, they are strong, muscular dogs with long, droopy ears, a high-set tail, and an expressive gaze. Temperamentally, Blueticks are intelligent, friendly, and outgoing, possessing a strong prey drive and an endearing, almost mournful, baying bark. While generally good with children and other pets when properly socialized, their high energy levels and vocal nature make them less suitable for apartment living; a home with a secure, fenced yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of potential health issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as bloat, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
