Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Smoke is an 11-month-old hound/Pit Bull mix who is so gentle and kind. At 67 lbs, he's goofy on his feet, bounding around with silly puppy wiggles when he chases a ball, or runs after his humans. He loves being near his people and always wants to know what’s going on—he’s the kind of dog who looks up to sniff the air just to make sure he’s in the loop. Smoke is house trained and crate trained, though not fully loving his crate yet. He’ll go in with a treat and a little encouragement, and once inside he settles nicely when someone is nearby. If left alone, he may whine or bark for a few minutes before calming down. He didn't have much training before foster care, so he's like a sweet toddler trying to figure out the rules. Smoke loves meeting other dogs and is curious and friendly when he sees them. He does not have much experience with cats or kids so a proper introduction would be needed. Smoke loves tug of war, chewing on bones, and going on walks. He’s not a big fetch guy, but he’ll humor you for a few rounds. He has a moderate energy level, so two walks and a good play session usually do the trick. Smoke’s ideal home is one where his humans are around often and can continue helping him feel safe, supported, and structured. He'll give you plenty of love in return! Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
