Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). This huge hound mix was found as a stray and went unclaimed, so he's looking for a family! He is a big lovebug, he loves to lean in for hugs and back scratches. His pictures are a little deceiving- he is 108 lbs and taller than you'd imagine- you could just about put a saddle on this guy! He is a leaner, walks great on a leash, knows how to take treats nicely, and fits perfectly in a recliner like he’s done it all his life! He is very food motivated, and doesn’t seem to mind some dogs (preferably the ladies) but is particular with other males. Even though he is big and majestic, Maverick seems to want to keep his distance from cats-like he is scared of them! He is a big gentle giant, and would love a home where someone will treat him like the king he is! He knows sit, stay (and does so very well), is happy as a couch potato with his favorite people. He likes to lift a paw up when people come around as if asking them to love him. Once you meet him, you will quickly fall in love with his gentle demeanor, and his dark brown eyes. *Maverick is fully sponsored- free to an approved home!* If you would like to meet me, please visit our website and complete the pre-adoption application. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (if over 2 years old), vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, microchipped and more before adoption. Our adoption policies include: Application, Vet Reference, Landlord approval & Criminal Background Check. We do not do same day adoptions. We request that you call for an appointment after your application has been approved to come and visit the dog of your choice. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
