Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Gorgeous he is! This is Bandit, the pup with a gentle spirit behind his soulful eyes. Sadly, his owner had to make the difficult decision to surrender him, not because of any fault of his own, but because his financial situation had changed and the owner could no longer care for him. Bandit is a 4-year-old, stunning German Shepherd with a shiny black coat. Bandit is at his full-grown weight of 70 pounds, making him a large size dog. Bandit came into rescue with wounds on his face and legs. We do not know what the circumstances are for the injuries, but we do know that he is healing and the hair from those past wounds is growing back. The patches are already filling in nicely with new hair. His favorite pastime is playing fetch, he can keep you entertained for hours, tail wagging happily every time you throw the ball. Bandit has spent time with several dogs, and his neutral dog temperament makes him a great companion for other dogs. Bandit also enjoys the company of children. He has not been introduced to cats, so it is unknown how he will be with them. Bandit is house trained but his leash and crate training are still in process. Bandit is very intelligent, with positive and consistent training, Bandit will become the amazing family member he longs to be. If you are ready to give a deserving dog a second chance, Bandit is waiting with open paws and a heart full of hope. * Please keep in mind when considering adoption, dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust significantly better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Bandit is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
