Description
Dog Breed: Dutch Shepherd (medium coat). Balsam is a playful, friendly, and slightly aloof Dutch Shepherd mix puppy with a huge personality (and massive paws to match!). He loves running around and is learning the ropes of puppy life. This big goof would thrive with an older dog sibling to teach him the ways of the world and show him how to be the best puppy ever. His temperament is mild, affectionate, and curiousâhe's just figuring out life and needs a patient human to help him learn basic manners, engagement, and social skills. Balsam is all about fun, exploration, and friendship, and his massive paws are really just a clue to the even bigger heart inside. He's a loyal, goofy ball of love in training, ready to grow into a fantastic companion. If you're looking for a playful, loving, and slightly clumsy puppy with a heart as big as his paws, Balsam's your boy! All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Breed overview
Holland Shepherd
A.K.A.: Dutch Shepherd, Dutchie, Hollandse Herder, Herder
Overview:
The Hollandse Herdershond, or Dutch Shepherd, is a versatile and intelligent breed originating from the Netherlands, where they were traditionally used by shepherds and farmers for herding and guarding livestock. Physically, they are a medium-sized dog with a powerful, muscular build, typically weighing between 50-70 pounds and standing 21-25 inches tall. Their coats come in three varieties: short-haired, long-haired, and wire-haired, all displaying the breed's distinctive brindle pattern in shades of gold or silver. Temperamentally, Dutch Shepherds are known for their strong work ethic, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to their families. They are highly trainable and excel in various dog sports like obedience, agility, and protection work. While generally good with children, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them better suited for active families with experience in dog ownership, rather than first-time owners or those in apartment settings. Like many active breeds, they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term health.
