Description

Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $600. Meet Sweet Juniper A stunning purebred Toy Australian Shepherd, just 7 months old and weighing a petite 7 pounds! Her former owners made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to our rescue, and we promised to find her the perfect forever home. Juniper is truly a gem — she already knows her basic commands, is crate trained, and is mostly potty trained. She’s a gentle, submissive, and affectionate little girl wrapped in a tiny 7-pound body. Her expected adult weight is about 8–12 pounds. Because Juniper is such a special, highly sought-after puppy, we’ll be very selective to ensure she’s placed in a home that meets all her needs. We’re currently only accepting applications from , preferably South Orange County residents and surrounding area. Juniper is up-to-date on vaccines, will be spayed when she’s old and big enough (included in her adoption donation), and will be microchipped through our rescue. She’d thrive in a home with another gentle, playful dog, ideally of a similar breed or size. Please note that home checks are part of our adoption process. Her pictures don’t do her justice — she’s absolutely gorgeous in person, and we’re sure her coat will grow out into that signature fluffy Toy Aussie look! Australian Shepherd

A.K.A.: Aussie, Little Blue Dog, Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Vasco, New Mexican Shepherd, California Shepherd, American Shepherd, New Mexican Sheepdog, California Sheepdog, American Sheepdog, Australian Sheepdog
Overview:

The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
