August is pretty much perfect and it didn’t take her long to get settled in to her foster home. She’s an absolute sweetheart and such a fun and silly girl. She’s done great with everyone she’s met so far, both men and women. She does well with other dogs with proper introductions. August will let you know she wants some attention and pets by touching you with her paw or nudging her head under your hand and will often pick up a toy and bring it to you to let you know it’s time to play! She likes to know what her foster mom is up to at home and is a little shadow following her from room to room, not wanting to miss out on what’s going on. But she also does good left home alone uncrated and usually just naps while her foster mom is gone. She does good in the car and likes to stick her nose out the window. Her favorite things are toys, going for long walks, toys, ear/butt scratches, toys, napping on the couch, toys, yummy treats, toys, playing fetch, and toys. Did we mention she LOVES toys?? She sleeps quietly through the night, but every morning she gets up and just stares at her foster mom (usually with a toy in her mouth) from beside the bed ready to go, not because she has to potty or wants breakfast, but because she wants to play with her toys and go for a long walk carrying her chosen toy of the day. She has a good amount of energy and loves going for walks and investigating all the smells. She’ll usually pick out a toy to carry on her walks and will only occasionally put it down if there’s something that needs intense sniffing but she’ll pick it up again after and continue on - it’s adorable! She loves to play fetch too. She is food-motivated and knows a few tricks, like sit, down, and shake, and is working on a few more too. She went stand up paddleboarding with her foster mom and did so well - she’s such a smart, confident, and adventurous pup. This sweet girl is really something special! She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. August does have age related degenerative changes in her spine which causes incontinence. She is very good about wearing a diaper and it is easy to manage. Because of this condition, she will need to be on lifelong medication to control any discomfort. Her adoption fee is $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
