Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). This sweet girl is Poppy, a 9 month old cattle dog mix. She and her sister Minnie were transferred to us from another shelter in the area to find their new homes. Minnie has been adopted, Poppy is still hoping. She can be shy around new people until she gets to know them. Poppy is a playful girl who also loves to sit and cuddle into her humans! She seems to be a little more independent than her sister. Poppy is still young, and with patience and encouragement, will most likely adapt to her new environment, whatever it may be- kids, cats, other dogs! Poppy is currently 25 pounds and will probably stay relatively small-ish as she gets older. If you would like to meet me, please visit our website and complete the pre-adoption application. Once it has been processed then we can make a date to get together! All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (if over 2 years old), vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, microchipped and more before adoption. Our adoption policies include: Application, Vet Reference, Landlord approval & Criminal Background Check. We do not do same day adoptions. We request that you call for an appointment after your application has been approved to come and visit the dog of your choice. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
