Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Meet Tory! Tory is a social little guy who warms up to new people within minutes. Once he’s comfortable, his friendly personality really shines—especially when there are other dogs around! He comes to life in the company of canine friends and loves to play. Tory is mostly potty trained and will also use a potty pad. He’s doing great with a regular schedule and currently goes out every 1–2 hours just to be safe. He doesn’t chew on inappropriate things and settles well when unsupervised. When his foster can’t keep an eye on him, he relaxes in his room with his crate, food, and water. He might give a soft whine for a minute or two but soon curls up for a nap—often choosing to sleep in his crate on his own. At night, Tory sleeps quietly, whether snuggled in bed or resting peacefully in his open crate. He’s still learning about toys; he perked up when a ball was thrown but wasn’t quite sure what to do next—he’ll get there! Tory is quite thin right now at just 5.8 lbs and needs to gain a pound or two. He’s a picky eater and not food-motivated, but his foster is working on finding what he enjoys most. It’s unknown how Tory does with kids or cats, though due to his small size, homes without young children are recommended. He doesn’t show any prey drive, so with proper introductions, cats might be just fine. Tory is a gentle, loving little companion who just needs a bit more weight, a lot of love, and a forever home to call his own. Tory is from a local impound. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
