Description
Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed. A SHY & LOVING LITTLE GIRL: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 12 lbs. Hi, I’m Cassandra, an adorable dog who came to Mostly Mutts from animal control. I don’t remember how I ended up there, but I’m grateful to be with Mostly Mutts now and in a wonderful foster home while I wait to find my new family! I came in heartworm positive, but I’ll be treated for that soon. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I like the dogs in my foster home, so if you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me or loud children as I’d like a nice calm home. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a very sweet and gentle girl who’s a bit shy and timid, but once I feel safe, you’ll see a bit more of my happy, tail-wagging side shine through. I’m calm, cuddly, and quiet - the kind of easy pup who’s content to just relax by your side. I have a laid-back nature and a heart full of sweetness, and I’m sure to bring a soft, peaceful joy to my forever home. / Energy level: My energy level is pretty low right now as I settle into my foster home – around 2-4. I think it may increase as I become more comfortable and once I’m finished with my heartworm treatment and recovery period. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: In my foster home, I’m working on the ‘come’ command and my leash walking skills. / I have very good crate manners in my foster home, and I sleep well through the night in my crate. / I had accidents on the Mostly Mutts schedule and am making slow but promising progress in my foster home, so just know that I’ll need you to be patient and gentle with me regarding my potty manners. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I adore gentle affection and peaceful naps, especially when I can curl up in a cozy lap or be held close by someone I love. I enjoy soaking up the sunshine on the porch with my foster family, feeling the warmth on my fur, and playing with a few toys like I did at the shelter. What I’d really love most is a calm, quiet home where I can feel safe, cherished, and spend my days surrounded by love. / I’m afraid of loud noises and I wouldn’t want to live in a loud or busy home and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Sadly, I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, so I'm HW positive. The good news is that I'll be treated for that at the end of December 2025 and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that treatment with their vet, so local adoption please. I hope to be with my family before treatment starts! If you have a nice calm home, I think we’d do very well together. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
