Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Adoption Fee: 275. Meet Duke 2.0 This three year old sweetheart was surrendered through no fault of his own. A red heeler in the home had it out for him, and his family made the heartbreaking choice to let him go somewhere he could feel safe. Duke is the angel of the situation, gentle and loving through it all. He will be neutered ASAP and we will handle everything. Duke is crate trained, playful, goofy, and absolutely adores kids. He loves being near people and soaks up attention like it’s his job. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of the family, involved in whatever you’re doing, and close enough to lean on you whenever possible. He’s unsure about cats but we will test him. He gets along well with other dogs, and he had parvo as a young puppy but is fully recovered and healthy now. Car rides make him a little nervous, but with patience and positive experiences he’ll learn that adventures can be fun. Duke would thrive in a home with children, a family atmosphere, and people who want a loving, happy companion right by their side. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, people loving Pyr who just wants to be your buddy, Duke 2.0 is your boy.

Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
