Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application! Pet Description: Pumpkin is a male Shep type mix, eight-months-old as of mid-Nov and only 40 lbs. He was found as a stray and brought to us. He has a very soft, loving temperament but also very timid and scared of new things. We are working on leash training but he just wants to do the low crawl method so we carry him out to our play yard. He will do best as a homebody dog in a quiet, calm home. Just wants to be loved on, good with children & other dogs. DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more. (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter). A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
