Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Opal, a beautiful 6-year-old Husky with a big personality and an even bigger heart. What you see is what you get with Opal, sheâs genuine, spirited, and never afraid to let you know how she feels! True to her Husky nature, Opal is quite vocal and loves to âtalkâ to her favorite humans. She thrives on attention and enjoys spending time outdoors, whether sheâs running, exploring, or simply soaking up the fresh air. Because she has lots of energy to burn, Opal would do best in a home with a yard where she can stretch her legs and play. She can be selective with other dogs, so a home where sheâs the only pup is the key to her heart. If youâre looking for an active, loyal friend who will fill your days with adventure and love, Opal might just be the perfect match. If you are interested in meeting/adopting Opal please just give us a call at the North Shelter 416-338-8723 and we can give you some more information on Opal and explain the current adoption process.

Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
