Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier. Thor is a 1-year-old cutie who came to us as a stray just a few weeks ago, and he is officially ready for a home! Don’t let the photos deceive you — Thor is actually a compact guy with short legs, beefy muscles, and the goofiest personality. He loves everyone he meets and is already learning his basic commands. He did fantastic at his very first adoption event this weekend, greeting everyone with a wagging tail and a huge smile. Thor is clean in his kennel, and he’s very food and treat motivated — which means training should be fun, easy, and rewarding for both him and his handler. After that, it’s all about his lovable personality: he’s goofy, affectionate, eager to please, and just wants to be part of someone’s family. If you’d like to meet Thor, stop by the shelter during visiting hours at 4 Jake Garzio Drive, Ewing NJ, or apply online here —> .easelnj/application-dog/ Adoption by appointment only with an approved adoption application. Please go to .easelnj/adopt to submit an adoption application. Someone will be in touch within 48 hours.

Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
